As “Museum Fever” tourism becomes popular the small and medium-sized museums in Luoyang stand out

During this year’s May Day holiday, the lingering fragrance of peonies and the upsurge of cultural and museum enthusiasm complemented each other. According to statistics from the Luoyang Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics, the number of visitors to many small and medium-sized museums in Luoyang increased significantly during the holiday. The average daily number of visitors to some venues approached that of the established popular large museums, reflecting the vigorous vitality of the differentiated development of small and medium-sized museums.

According to a relevant official from the Luoyang Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics, the reasons for this phenomenon are twofold. On the one hand, the popular large museums are so crowded that it is hard to get a ticket, which leads many tourists and citizens to turn their attention to the relatively less popular small and medium-sized museums. On the other hand, many small and medium-sized museums offer unique and distinctive activities and exhibitions that meet the personalized demands of visitors.

An Feng, a sociologist from Luoyang Normal University, believes that currently, with the “museum fever” spreading to the lower-tier markets, small and medium-sized museums in Luoyang are facing unprecedented opportunities. In the future, these museums can enhance their popularity and interactivity by creating creative hotspots and strengthening the application of digital technology, continuously expanding the breadth and depth of museum services, and better showcasing and inheriting the culture of the River Luo region.(Reporter Liu jiayi)
