Luoyang craftsman Chen Lin : Reviving Dynasties with Silk and Style

Chen Lin, a craftsman from Luoyang: Reviving thousand-year-old cultural relics with a needle, making them come alive in the folds of clothing and the elegance of hairstyles.

Chen Lin, a non-heritage inheritor from Luoyang, has combined the needlework skills passed down through her family for four generations with cultural relics to design creative sachets inspired by landmarks such as the Green Stone Dragon of Erlitou and the Heavenly Tower. Originally working in environmental engineering, she picked up her old skills to help her mother’s traditional sachet factory achieve digital upgrading. She won an award with a work inspired by Tang Tri-color Glazed Ceramics.

Now, her sachet factory has provided flexible employment for over 40 local women and customizes products for many cultural and tourism institutions. The annual orders have been steadily increasing. Chen Lin believes that inheritance is about infusing new life into ancient patterns with contemporary stitching techniques.
