Recently, the Henan Lu Hun Lake National Wetland Park has once again welcomed the wintering of national first-class protected animals such as the Baer’s Pochard and the Black Stork, marking the continuous improvement of the regional ecological environment. The globally critically endangered Baer’s Pochard has wintered here for three consecutive years. The appearance of these species, which are highly demanding of their habitat, such as the Baer’s Pochard and the “indicator species” Black Stork, is a strong proof of the improving ecological quality of the wetland.
Since this winter, over 70 species of birds have come here to spend the winter, including rare species such as the Chinese merganser. Thanks to a series of wetland protection and restoration projects, 273 species of birds have been recorded in this wetland, among which there are 8 species of first-class national protected animals and over 40 species of second-class national protected animals. This is also a vivid practice of the strategic deployment of “strengthening biodiversity protection”.

The person in charge of the park stated that in the future, they will continue to implement the concept of ecological protection, strengthen patrolling and publicity, promote the continuous improvement of the wetland ecological environment, and provide support for the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin.(Reporter Lyu Baiying, Correspondent Lyu Na, Li Qingfeng)
