Recently, Guo Jiaqi, a designer of tri-colored glazed pottery completed the exhibition setup of his horse-themed tri-colored glazed pottery works in Xinxiu, Weipo, Mengjin. His works, while maintaining traditional craftsmanship, exude a fresh modern vibe.
Guo Jiaqi believes that tri-color glazed pottery needs to incorporate contemporary expressions to better integrate into daily life. After returning to China in 2019, he started from the basic procedures, delved deeply into the understanding of the craftsmanship’s context, and then explored innovations.

One of the representative works of its innovative concept is the “Cloud Sails” ceiling in the Luoyang Sui-Tang Grand Canal Culture Museum. Composed of nearly 130,000 handcrafted terracotta tubes and covering an area of over 10,000 square meters, this piece is currently the world’s largest tri-color glazed ceramic installation, allowing people to enter and experience the contemporary atmosphere of tri-color glazed ceramics.
In addition, he has combined tri-color glazed pottery with modern practical objects. For instance, the “ceramic speaker” he designed for a UN-related event integrates traditional glazing techniques with modern technology, demonstrating the greater potential of ceramics.

Guo Jiaqi stated, “The selection of ‘He and Luo Special Talents’ is an incentive for innovative practices. He will seize the development opportunities of Luoyang’s cultural tourism, continue to explore the potential of tri-color glazed pottery, and inject new vitality into the high-quality development of Luoyang’s cultural industry.”(Reporter Lyu Baiying)
