Xiaolangdi Reservoir Selected as Outstanding “Beautiful River and Lake” Case

Recently, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced the fourth batch of outstanding cases of beautiful rivers and lakes, and the Xiaolangdi Reservoir was successfully selected.

Beautiful rivers and lakes are a concentrated manifestation and important carrier of a beautiful China in the field of water ecological environment. To comprehensively promote the protection and construction of beautiful rivers and lakes and strengthen the exemplary and leading role of outstanding cases, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment has selected and announced 47 outstanding cases of beautiful rivers and lakes in the fourth batch. These cases have achieved remarkable results in the integrated management of water resources, water environment and water ecology, and are exemplary models of water ecological environment protection.

The Xiaolangdi Water Conservancy Project is located in the middle reaches of the Yellow River. It is the largest comprehensive water conservancy project in the Yellow River Basin, integrating functions such as flood control, sediment reduction, irrigation, power generation, water supply, and ecological regulation. It effectively stores sediment, reduces flood peaks, and ensures the safety of flood control in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. It reduces sediment by over 300 million tons on average each year, irrigates over 8.5 million mu of land, and generates over 5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, providing crucial support for the livelihoods and ecological balance of the basin. From frequent floods to a peaceful flow into the sea, the Xiaolangdi Water Conservancy Project is a testament to the wisdom of Yellow River governance and a solid barrier for safeguarding the homes along the river.

Previously, the YiLuo River (Luoyang section) was selected as an outstanding case of the second batch of beautiful rivers and lakes in China. (Reporter Wei Wei, Communicator Zhao Yahong)
