Step into one of the birthplaces of early Chinese civilization — Yanshi Shangcheng Historic Site. Over 3,000 years ago, this land witnessed the transition from Xia to Shang, the rise of state power, and the emergence of urban life. Its walls, water systems, and palace layout reveal the earliest blueprint of order and imagination in the East. Together with Professor Zhang Lidong and RSA Fellow Professor Robert Walker, we explore how cities began, how authority formed, and how civilization grew from earth and water. Archaeology unlocks history; dialogue bridges time. Yanshi Shangcheng Historic Site allows us to see where civilization started — and reflect on the world we live in today.
