The list of 100 candidates for the “China Intangible Cultural Heritage Person of the Year 2024” has been released, with one person from Luoyang making the cut.
Recently, the list of 100 candidates for the 2024 “Annual Figures of China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage” selection and promotion campaign was determined. Gao shuiwang, a representative inheritor of the national-level intangible cultural heritage project “Tang Tri-color Glazed Ceramics Firing Technique” from Luoyang, was selected.
The selection and promotion event of “China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Annual Figures” has been successfully held for seven consecutive years. This year’s event is guided by the Intangible Cultural Heritage Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and jointly organized by Guangming Daily and Guangming.com. Candidates are recommended by cultural and tourism departments, intangible cultural heritage protection units, experts and netizens from all over the country. A total of 100 candidates, including inheritors, artists, managers, researchers and disseminators, have been selected. Next, 30 nominated candidates will be selected from the 100 candidates. Finally, 10 “China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Annual Figures” for 2024 will be chosen based on online evaluations and expert reviews from the 30 nominated candidates.
Gao shuiwang was born in 1958 in Nanshishan Village, Mengjin District, Luoyang City. At the age of 17, he began to learn the art of making Tang Tri-color Glazed Ceramics. He developed a unique glaze cracking technique called “Dragonfly Wings”, successfully integrating artistic elements from various fields such as painting, sculpture, and engraving into the production of Tang Tri-color Glazed Ceramics. He has created traditional art works including horses, camels, figures, and vessels, as well as modern art works such as relief murals, series of totems of the Yellow River culture, series on the theme of the Silk Road, cartoon sculptures for animation and online games, and fashionable hand-held items of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs.
